FOX-MIIRE is a Group of the engineering school Telecom Lille1 and the LIFL which is the computer science department of Lille's Science and Technology University (USTL). The LIFL was founded in 1983 and has been continuously expanding ever since. Its staff presently comprises 100 permanent members - 70 lecturers and professors, 30 technicians and administrative staff -, along with 80 PhD students. The research at the LIFL is enhanced by researchers and projects of CNRS and INRIA, the two major French research institutions in computer science: • CNRS supports the LIFL since its creation in 1983, in terms of a mixed research unit (UMR USTL/CNRS8022) which belongs to the CNRS department on science and technology in information and communication (STIC), • INRIA invests in the LIFL since 2003. The recent objective is the expansion of the research center INRIA Futurs in Lille, Bordeaux, and Paris-Saclay. The LIFL has numerous other industrial and academic partners on the international, national, and regional levels. The LIFL is already the most important computer science research institute in the North of France. In the near future, it aims at creating a center of excellence in computer science with its regional and national partners.
