This Encyclopedia of Digital Libraries aims to provide a comprehensive coverage and definitions of the most important issues, concepts, trends and technologies relating to digital library technology and applications (Deadline for proposal: 28 August 2006).

Contributions to the publication will be made by scholars and practitioners with well-established research portfolios and expertise from a variety of disciplines such as computer science, library and information sciences, archival and museum studies, human-computer interaction, knowledge management, the social sciences, humanities and other related areas, throughout the world. All contributions will be peer-reviewed. The Encyclopedia of Digital Libraries will provide a compendium of terms, definitions and explanations of concepts, processes and acronyms. In addition, this volume will feature articles (2,000-2,500) authored by leading experts, and offering an in-depth description of key terms and concepts.

  

The Encyclopedia will be organised around ten areas: (1) Historical and Theoretical Foundations; (2) Design and Development; (3) Information Processing; (4) Content Management; (5) Security and Privacy; (6) Users, Interactions and Experiences; (7) Case Studies and Applications; (8) Use and Impact; (9) Digital Library Education; and (10) Future Trends and Development. We invite participation from practitioners, researchers, educators and policy makers  Submissions of proposals (about 800 - 1,000 words) on all areas are welcome and may include research, system, evaluation, policy and position papers reporting digital library research and development.
