DELOS Summer School on Preservation 2006 Centro Studi "I Cappuccini", San Miniato (IT)
The DELOS Network of Excellence is pleased to announce its summer school programme on 'Digital Preservation in Digital Libraries: Emerging Approaches'. The DELOS Network of Excellence is a four-year project funded by the European Commission under the Seventh Framework Programme to synergize and foster technology for the next-generation of Digital Libraries (www.delos.info). Participation in the School will assist participants in understanding how to address digital preservation challenges in the context of the digital library. The workshop will provide a networking opportunity for participants to meet with other students and researchers, international experts, and practitioners across disciplinary and national boundaries.
Workshop Format
During this five-day summer school, internationally established lecturers will each lead half-day sessions and most will be available through the week for further discussion. The course builds on cutting edge research being conducted by the lecturers. By the end of the course, participants will have:

Venue
The venue for the Summer School is a 15th century monastery set in the Tuscan Hills. The lecture rooms and breakout meeting facilities are world-class. Those who select accommodation onsite will find the accommodation is pleasant and the food rich in local flavour. San Miniato, a town with a history stretching back to at least the Etruscan period, is about 1.5 kilometres walk away across Tuscan hills dappled with olive trees and vines.
Registration
Registration was closed at the end of May 2006.
Full registration fee is 1100 € and includes Reception Sunday evening (4 June), Wine tasting (6 June), Summer School Dinner (8 June), coffee and tea in the morning and afternoon, pre-course reader, and course materials. The full registration fee also includes accommodation in the Centre "I Cappuccini" (single room with bath and air conditioning), and full board starting with the dinner of the 4th of June and ending with the breakfast of Saturday the 10th of June.
School (Tuition) only registration is 500 € and includes all of the above, except accommodation and meals.
For university students, PhD students and postdoctoral researchers a limited number of partial bursaries is available. Confirmation is subject to receipt of a letter of recommendation from the University or the research organization is required. The number of bursaries is limited and will be granted under a first come, first served policy.
