Research interests
My research interests are mainly: a) structural and semantic decomposition of complex folklore collections; b) the design of metadata models and application profiles that can describe complex folklore collections; c) ontological representation and semantics manipulation of the objects, sub-collections and collections and their relationships; d) the effective administration of folklore collections in order to satisfy a varied audience; e)semantic interoperability between cultural heritage metadata. Until now I have dealt with the following issues: Refinement of the requirements and the characteristics of complex folklore collections. Design of a metadata application profile for collection–level description of complex folklore collections by mixing different metadata elements and creation of crosswalks between the application profile with the source metadata standards Creation of a functional metadata model for the folklore collection of the University of Athens Study of topic maps and how to represent knowledge for cultural collections

Professional profile
My name is Irene Lourdi and I am a PhD student in the Department of Archive & Library Sciences of Ionian University; the topic of my PhD thesis is “Management metadata for folklore collections” and my main research area is: Digital Libraries – Preservation of cultural heritage. During the last 5 years I am librarian in the Libraries Computer Centre of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens. My duties concern the support of the librarians to the services and systems developed by the centre. Also as a member of the team of Libraries Computer Centre, I participate in digitization projects of various collections that run for the University of Athens. These projects are funded by the E.C.
