Research interests
One of my main interests is the research on new methods for the automatic analysis and annotation of images and videos with the aim to support an integrated retrieval of multimedia documents in digital libraries and navigation in digital image and video collections. Specifically there, I am interested in analysis and combination of multiple information channels for automating further the process of generating semantic metadata for images and videos. In the video area this means analysis of the available visual, textual (embedded video text, subtitles) and audio channel; in the image domain, the analysis of the visual and textual (caption, surrounding or attached text, etc.) channel respectively. Furthermore I am interested in scenarios and use cases where combining geographical location information and knowledge with image analysis can add value in extracting and recognising objects within images and videos and enable geo-based navigation and search in digital collections. Given that my primary expertise is in image processing and the above interests are multidisciplinary I am actively seeking co-operations for research projects.
