The Institute of Knowledge Sharing (IKS) is an independent research organisation whose aim is to promote cross-cultural accessibility and sharing of knowledge through knowledge technologies like digital libraries and collaboratories. Technologies include the Web, advanced multimedia interfaces for information access, technologies for pervasive communication and collaborative technologies. Our expertise in accessibility is focused on users' needs for services and interfaces that support the users’ exploration, production and sharing of knowledge content in digital libraries and collaboratories. IKS is especially strong in qualitative evaluation methods, notably in participatory evaluation, which involves a close collaboration with the users, and formative evaluation, which involves a close collaboration with the design process. IKS also has a long-standing background and experience in research and education in information seeking and knowledge organisation, design and evaluation of IR languages (thesauri, classification systems), human-computer interaction and cognitive work analysis. IKS’ research is carried out in close collaboration with university and sector research partners in Europe and the United States. Through its placement in Videnhuset (eng: "The Knowledge House") in central Copenhagen, Denmark, IKS offers consultancy services for public and private organisations on knowledge technologies, including Autonomy, InfoFinder, DigiMaker and ShareWorks. IKS provides research-based education and mentoring in entrepreneurship for academics who want to start an independent company for further development and exploitation of research. The director of IKS, senior scientist Hanne Albrechtsen, has a long-standing experience working on EU funded projects, especially under the IST programmes, the Telematics for Libraries programme and ESPRIT. |
