The "Faculty of Informatics, Masaryk University, Brno" is an academic institution engaged in high-level education and research. The database research group at this faculty is primarily working on storage structure support for large-scale digital libraries. An important part of the research concerns similarity search access methods for metric distance (dis-similarity) measures. Current research is focused on the difficult problems of similarity joins in metric spaces and on scalable and distributed structures for the same type of data. The second major stream of research activities concentrates on the index structures for XML data. Most recently, the group has started to work on advanced search methods for semi-structured XML data, integrating XML pattern matching with information-retrieval-style ranking. |
