Papers, Panels, Demonstrations,
Posters, Tutorials and Workshops

ECDL2000, the Fourth European Conference on Research and Advanced
Technology for Digital Libraries, will be held in Lisbon, Portugal,
from 18 to 20 September 2000. This
conference follows the previous very successful conferences in Pisa
in 1997, Heraklion in 1998
and Paris in 1999.
One major goal of the ECDL series of conferences is to bring
together researchers, industrial members, professionals, user communities
and responsibles, promoting it as a reference forum for discussion of new
emerging issues, requirements, proposals, politics and solutions.
In this sense, ECDL2000 intends
to contribute to bring into focus this complex scenario, promoting opportunities
for the exchange of ideas and knowledge between all the different perspectives
relevant for digital libraries. |
Call for papers and panels
Proposals for papers and panels related to digital libraries should address
mainly the following topics:

Digital Library Requirements, Models, Systems and Frameworks (Metadata;
Capturing; Indexing and Cataloging; User Interfaces; Knowledge Representation;
Filtering and Dissemination; Preservation; etc.);
-
Electronic Publishing and Economic Issues (New Publishing and Economic
Models; Terms and Conditions for Access and Use; Intellectual Property
and Rights Management; etc.);
-
Networking and Distributing Issues (Interoperability; Scalability;
Networked Resource Discovery; Collaborative and Distributes Authoring;
Collaborative and Distributes Resources Management; etc.);
-
Social Implications and Issues (User's Models; International Collaboration;
Digital Libraries and Consortia; Multicultural and Multilingual Issues;
New Emerging Issues; etc.).
Call for Demonstrations and Posters
The conference organizers solicit proposals for demonstrations of innovative
results, projects and products, as also for high quality posters with last
minute results and proposals. A permanent space for those purposes will
be available during all the conference time.
Call for Workshops
Relevant post-conference workshops may be organized during the 21 September
2000. Workshops are supposed to be focused on specialized technical,
organrs must take in attention that:

The proceedings will be published by Springer in the series of Lecture
Notes in Computer Science, both in printed and digital media (<http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/index.html>),
so please consider that the final camera ready papers will have to be prepared
according the instructions at <http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html>.
However, preferable formats for the submission of the proposals are PDF,
Microsoft Word or Postscript, and always in just one file (so please do
not send us HTML with inline images).

Papers must be written in English and in no case should they exceed 10
printed pages. The first page must include the title, author name(s) and
affiliation(s), an abstract and keywords.

If your document is larger than 1 MByte, you may consider to compress it
with Winzip before send it for submission.
Selected papers may be published later on also in the International
Journal on Digital Libraries (<http://link.springer.de/link/service/journals/00799/index.htm>)izational
or political issues, and promoted by specific communities, projects, organizations,
etc.
Call for Tutorials
High quality pre-conference tutorials on fundamental or advanced issues
may be organized during the 17 September 2000. Tutorials are intended
to be important opportunities for students and newcomers to contact with
specialists in fundamental issues, as also for experienced participants
to learn more about new emerging issues.
Submissions

Proposals for papers or panels must be PREFERABLY, submited online using
the service at <sub.html>,
or sent by email to <ecdl2000@bn.pt>

Other proposals must be sent by email to <ecdl2000@bn.pt>.

Proposals for demonstrations and posters may consist in a two to
four pages descriptive document, referring also the technical requirements
for its exposition.
-
Proposals for panels, workshops or tutorials must consist in a descriptive
document with relevant elements, such as the purpose of the event, the
subject areas and communities to be involved, possible requirements for
its organization, etc.

Proposals for papers must take in attention that:

Papers must have until 10 pages (including images and tables), using a
normal font size.

Preferable formats for the submission are PDF, Microsoft Word or Postscript,
and always in just one file (so please do not submit in HTML with inline
images - in that case you may compress it all with Winzip, for example).
